First night image stack.
Second night image stack.
The image below is a stack of the best nine (out of fifteen), unfiltered, four-minute CCD images taken by Joe Dellinger at the George Observatory, using the Fort Bend Astronomy Club's 18-inch (46 cm) f/4.5 reflector and the Zilkha AP-8 camera. The image sequence began at 06:01:45 (UT) on 5 January 2001. The image is roughly 40 arcminutes on a side. North is up, East is to the left.
I processed the images using MaxIm DL. The images were dark subtracted and flat fielded. A "Flatten background" was then applied, along with hot/cold pixel removal prior to stack.
The frame is full of stars because the burst occurred near the Milky Way.
The follow up image below is a stack of the best 11 out of 12 unfiltered four-minute CCD images taken by Joe Dellinger using the same telescope, camera, and processing as on the first image. The image sequence began at 05:42:00 UT, on 6 January 2001.
