New format explanation
Lastest designation
Old-style designations (pre Nov 2000)
New style FBAC designations
Our new designations are date-encoded, and have the format:
FYMDDN
Where F stands for FBAC East Dome discoveries
(objects spotted in the Research Dome and West Dome could use G
and W, respectively).
Y stands for the last digit in the year, e.g. 2000 is encoded as 0, 2001 as 1, ... 2010 as A, 2011 as B, etc.
M is the month, with 1 for January, 2 for February, ... A for October, B for November, and C for December.
DD is the UT day of the month (01 through 31).
N is the label for the object found that night,
starting with 1 for the first, 2
for the second, ... A for the tenth, B
for the eleventh, and so on. If more than 35 objects are found on a given night,
small letters will be used. Whe the small letters are used up, the first letter
changes from F to E, then C, ....
Thus: FYMDD1, FYMDD2, FYMDD3 ... FYMDD9, FYMDDA, FYMDDB, ... FYMDDZ, FYMDDa,
FYMDDb,
